Triptech: Antonio Experience |
Stephanie McInroy rovente@aol.com
My art is in a perpetual state of evolution, beginning with representational images of my surroundings and things important to me. I find it curious and comforting that my work has followed my emotional life and mirrored my personal growth. My images have become more abstract and experimental as I have matured and sought out new experiences. Specifically my collages and non representational pieces have become increasingly more layered with texture and color as my life has become more complex. I see this as a result of me trying less to represent something exactly and trying harder to relay my experience of something.
Collage and multimedia are to me about the layering of time and space. Color, texture and form are responses to personal evocative images and experiences. They are shorthand for more complex images, drawn from memory. As my life becomes the sum of experiences and relationships interwoven into a complex and intricate whole, my imagery and mark making becomes more symbolic with personal archetypical images.
My artistic expression seems now more of an emotional/spiritual expression than simply a creative outlet as it was when I began this journey. More recently I find that some pieces of my work have many layers of meaning, though interestingly enough the complete meaning of the images isn’t revealed to me until after it has been completed and studied by me.
I now find more fulfillment in my work since I have begun to approach it in a more relaxed manner. I enjoy the fact that the inspiration for each piece isn't particularly obvious.
